Carlsson PENINSULA i30 N

(Based Hyundai i30 Fastback N)

With the Hyundai i30 N, Carlsson Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH enters new territory in two ways. First and foremost, Carlsson launches a vehicle from the South Korean brand Hyundai. At the same time, the new Sub Brand “Carlsson PENINSULA” will be presented with this project. Carlsson PENINSULA will be dedicated to the tuning of sport and luxury offerings from Hyundai and Kia.

The reason to launch a sub brand is two-fold. First, the parent company of Carlsson is Sambo Motors Group, a South Korean Tier 1 manufacturer for Hyundai and Kia. Furthermore, there is significant modification potential for sporty Korean cars, both in terms of the tuning affinity of the target group and the design-technical possibilities.

The name PENINSULA as a brand name has been deliberately chosen by Carlsson to reflect the geography of Korea which is the origin of its parent company and Hyundai/Kia.

The PENINSULA i30 N is a classic member of the Hot Hatchback Group, which tries to reach the sporty ambitious driver in the compact class. For the Carlsson developers and designers it was clear from the beginning: the project can only be tackled if the sport is ordered even more.

The exterior the Carlsson PENINSULA is its aerodynamic package, consisting of front spoiler, air intake frame, side skirts, roof spoiler and rear apron insert, with integrated diffuser and aluminum-forged exhaust tailpipe.

The new appearance is crowned by the PENINSULA rim design 815. This magnesium 19-inch forged wheel is reminiscent of the wheels of the golden rally era in the 1980s thanks to the combination of a multi-spoke and double-rim look. The special material properties and the special manufacturing process make it possible to save approx. 5.4 kg per rim compared to the standard rim. This reduction in unsprung mass noticeably improves driving dynamics.

The 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine originally has 275 hp. Thanks to an electronic power upgrade, a downpipe, an exhaust system from OPF and a larger intercooler, an increase to 330 hp is achieved. In order to adapt the driving behavior of the increased performance, Carlsson uses a coilover suspension from the development partner KW and combines this with a reinforced and adjustable stabilizer. This suspension solution is rounded off by a proven Carlsson set-up.
